Restored from the ravages of time

When this fold-out mahogany desk came to the WEF emergency room, it had suffered quite a bit of damage. Bill first repaired a broken leg and rebuilt the under structure. Then he carefully reglued the flame mahogany door panels and replaced the leather on the fold-out desk top (not visible here). He cleaned and hand-rubbed the finish with his French polishing technique. And to replace one of the ivory escutcheons around the keyholes, he dug through the bag of piano keys he keeps in the basement and found just the right stuff. The surgery turned out to be a huge success, and the patient returned to Boston looking just like the well-kept antique it was meant to be.
